Electrical Apprentice
Why did you decide to get into your respective trade?
I was looking to change careers to find something to better fit my work-life balance and goals for my future. The electrical field provided consistent hours, better pay and benefits, an active job, an opportunity to learn constantly, and a bit of a challenge.

It’s more several little moments that I keep in mind like a foreperson telling me something specific I did well or being told I’ve impressed them with my technical skills.

I consider myself lucky for the supervisors and other electricians I work with. They have been great teachers and very supportive when taking on new tasks and practicing new skills.
What advice would you give someone looking to get into the trades or just starting in the trades?
Go into your apprenticeship with a positive attitude. Be ready to learn and show interest in what your mentors are teaching you. This can be a great career.

Sheet Metal Apprentice
Why did you decide to get into your respective trade?
I entered the trade looking for more stability for my family of six and a challenge. I have always loved making things and working with my hands, now I get to do it for my career.

My apprenticeship has been full of helpful peers and supervisors. My supervisors show me support by assigning me to specific tasks and trusting me to complete them correctly. It's a real feeling of pride when a supervisor trusts you with a task.

Show up and be ready to work. It can be hard work at times, but it is worth it. If you are reliable and go anywhere you are needed, you'll learn so much.
