National Day of Mourning

Today marks the National Day of Mourning, a time to pay tribute to workers who have lost their lives, been injured, or suffered illness due to work-related incidents.

We must always remember to follow the 12 Health and Safety Golden Rules, continue to look out for one another, and feel empowered to stop unsafe work, regardless of any pressure.

Please join us in observing a moment of silence at 11:00am.

When reflecting on the importance of this day, we can also use it as a reminder to renew our commitment to creating safe workplaces for everyone.

12 Golden Rules:

Each employee has the right and duty to stop when feeling unsafe. Everyone also has the right to intervene when one is in danger, either a colleague, subcontractor, or client. This can be done by following these four steps:

  1. INTERVENE respectfully and engage in conversation to analyze and discuss the situation.

  2. AGREE on the safe solutions that will allow work to resume safely. Contact a supervisor, manager, or a member of the HSE team in a case where an agreement cannot be made.

  3. RESTART once it is confirmed safe.

  4. REPORT OUT to share information and lessons learned.
