Safety Week: Controlling Hazardous Energy

Today, we’re focusing on a critical aspect of workplace safety: controlling hazardous energy. Whether you're maintaining machinery, repairing equipment, or performing routine inspections, uncontrolled energy can pose serious risks—electrical shock, crushing injuries, burns, or even fatalities.

Hazardous energy isn’t just about electricity. It includes mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, thermal, and gravitational energy—any force that can unexpectedly move, release, or activate equipment. That’s why understanding and applying proper energy control procedures is not just a regulatory requirement—it’s a life-saving practice.

Our goal today is to reinforce the importance of identifying energy sources, following lockout/tagout protocols, and ensuring that no one is exposed to danger during servicing or maintenance. Because when it comes to hazardous energy, there are no second chances.
