Safety Week: Golden Rule #12 — STOP Work. Shared Vigilance

Today, we will focus on one of the most powerful tools we have to protect ourselves and each other: the courage to STOP work when something doesn’t feel safe. Golden Rule #12 — STOP Work: Shared Vigilance — isn’t just a policy. It’s a mindset. It’s a commitment to looking out for one another, speaking up when something seems off, and trusting that safety always comes before schedules, production, or pressure.

Shared vigilance means we’re never alone in this responsibility. Whether you're a new hire or a seasoned veteran, your voice matters. If you see a hazard, a near miss, or even a gut feeling that something’s wrong — you have the right and the responsibility to pause the job. And when someone else stops work, we support them, not question them.

Stopping work isn’t failure — it’s leadership. It’s how we build a culture where safety is lived, not just talked about.
